Control Joint:- To control the movement caused by the Temperature and drying shrinkage because of the hygrometric nature of cement, Generally schedule surface cracks that are called Control joints.

Depth of the Control Joints:- Should be a minimum of 1/4 of the depth of the slab.

Spacing between the control joints: – 

 Slab Thickness

 Spacing

 4 inch

Approx.  8 – 12 sq feet 

 5 inch

Approx 10 – 15 sq feet 

 6 inch 

 Approx. 12 – 18 sq feet

Polyurethane backer rod:- If the depth of the elastomeric Sealant is more than 10 mm then always use a backer rod to avoid 3 points adhesion of the elastomeric sealants. Control joint
